After graduating in statistics from University College London, Michael was placed on an accelerated training programme at KPMG where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant passing all exams at the first attempt. He then spent eight years at American Investment banks (Kidder,Peabody and Paine Webber - which are both now part of UBS) working in fixed income trading in London, New York and Singapore. He was the top student in the global intake on the MBA training programme.   Michael has worked for 3 different fund management organisations in positions from senior analyst to Chief Investment Officer. He has also worked directly for a multi-billion dollar hedge fund as a trader and senior analyst. As a consultant, he advised and acted as Chief Investment Officer for wealth management companies and fund of funds on underlying investments, portfolio management and risk management. His specialties include both hedge funds and traditional investment funds. Strategies advised upon include, but are not limited to, global macro, long only equity strategies, long only fixed income stratgies, equity long short, market neutral, fixed income arbitrage, mortgage backed securities (both residential and commercial), option trading, illiquid credit strategies, convertible bonds, event driven including distressed, corporate restructuring and merger arbitrage, commodities including both precious and base metals, agricultural and other soft commodities, and real estate.   Michael is currently a director of a real estate private equity company that invests in all areas of the capital stack including senior and mezzanine debt, preference shares and common equity. Proptech investments are also of interest, He also acts as CEO of a single family office.   Michael has been quoted in the press, and has also spoken at industry conferences and on BBC Radio 4 and Radio 5 about investment related matters.  In his spare time Michael takes an interest in art, politics and philosophy and has lectured at Oxford University and at the University of London on the latter two. He has a voluntary position as a Director and Trustee of small registered charity that promotes free speech and civic engagement. He has also written articles for The Spectator, a British political and current affairs magazine that has been in existence for nearly 200 years.
